Gungun
"Mystery of disappearing cleft children -1 ( solved)" Our cleft nutrition program saves thousands of lives. Gungun came to us couple of years ago with severe malnutrition and a cleft of her lip and palate. She was not able to suck breast milk and that dried up soon. Mother did not know how to feed her properly. She gave her cow's milk, too diluted, and with poor hygiene. Gungun went into severe malnutrition with frequent illnesses and could have died soon. Then they came to us for surgery, but she was too weak for any surgery. So we counseled her about proper feeding, gave her powder milk, utensils for feeding and few medicines and kept her in close telephonic follow up and monitored her growth. Soon she showed signs of improvement, she gained weight, her hemoglobin became normal. She came back again and got her cleft lip surgery and later her cleft palate surgery too. Today she came in follow-up- a very happy child , with very happy patient and ,of course, to a happy doctor and team. She will now receive speech therapy and other treatment.

He walked into my office 11 years after his surgery and said, "do you remember me?". I quickly pulled out his previous photos and said, " Yes, I am waiting for you for 11 years and I have used your pouting photographs in my presentations to show how muscles are separated in cleft" . This is the only photograph in about a million photographs that I have where a child has shown such a good pout. Thank you Amit! Have a great happy life.
